Check out that wood pile! This is the back of the Lynker's home. They have the most enormous lawn you have ever seen. It extends far down the mountain. Debbie said it would take about 8 1/2 hours to mow it all in one shot. Yikes!
Debbie got up and made us sausage and blueberry pancakes with--get this--REAL maple syrup made from their very own maple trees! So, I've had real maple syrup before, but from the very trees surrounding me? Made by my very own host? No. I am sure that happens once in a lifetime. Probably never in most lifetimes, actually.
Did you know it takes 40-70 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup? If I ever did that much work for any type of food, I'd never share it. Not even with my own children. These guys are pure gold, I tell you. I never did get to see the barn where the syrup is made, but CA
The woods next to the Lynker's house are so beautiful! I have never seen so many ferns in my life. They grow as thick as grass. It is absolutely amazing.
This cute little guy is R.J., the Lynker's grandson. You've never met such a happy, go lucky kid in your life! He was a joy to be around!
Can you see the forest of ferns? They really are something else. Eliza found some good walking sticks to use on our stroll through the woods. She also found a frog later, but he wasn't good for walking with.
Perfect porch swing. It's ultimate relaxation sitting here and gazing out over the trees.
After breakfast we headed to the Hemlock Cottage/Stone House for a day of swimming! They let us borrow their tubes--Eliza loved floating along!
This is Fiona and Sarah--two great girls! Fiona was absolutely fabulous with my girls! She was so great to watch over them and make sure they were having fun and felt comfortable. She is one mature teenager! I hope my girls grow up to be as kind and personable as she is.
Madeline (and the back of A.J.)
Mari licked every rock she put in this bucket. Literally. The moss and algae must have an irresistable taste and texture, because she could not get enough of it! Maybe she was missing her green smoothies.
It's Beaverkill tradition to become "Indian" with rock face paint. For some reason, Camilla was the only one who got painted. She got the full Beaverkill experience.
The tadpoles in the river could nearly rival the seed of Abraham. Thousands of those suckers were swimming in the shallow water here. It was unbelievable!
Anna enjoyed the sand toys that were available.
This water is cold! It totally took my breath away. You have to be brave and just jump in. Once you get used to it, it's not bad, but quite a shock initially!
R.J., Eliza, Natalia, and Anna were working to make a river area for the tadpoles to live in.
Sweet little Injun Camilla.
Grandma Kathy took Madeline and Camilla each on a walk down to the rapid (sort of rapid) water. It was quite a walk!
Madeline practiced all her swimming strokes in the river.
Doesn't that look like a tadpole haven?
(Just FYI, they have t-shirts over their swimsuits, we didn't just go pant-less for the day). This is the upstairs hallway of the Hemlock Cottage--I loved this cute curved corner. Just had to get a picture of it.
The railing in the Hemlock Cottage. Cute as can be.
This cottage is all a cottage should be. Absolutely quaint, cute, and cozy.
I just couldn't get enough of this kitchen! The yellow beams were so darling!
My mom said this kitchen looks just like she remembered it. I LOVED the yellow beams. Did I mention that already? Plus, pans hanging on the wall would be so cluttery in my kitchen, but they were perfect here.
How would you like to do dishes with that view to feast upon!?
Cute yellow curtains, too. I'd love to do some cooking in here.
A side view of the Hemlock Cottage.
Chatting it up! L to R, Kevin, Roger Lynker, Eliza, Kathy, Anna, the back of Fiona and Sarah, Madeline.
And, the view out the bathroom window. Yep, this is what you see as you sit on the throne of the Cottage. Ahhh. Such a beautiful place. I love you, Beaverkill!
Such an amazing place--now I HAVE to go there! Love these pictures so much.
