Our Wonderful New York Trip: Day Five

By day five we had seen and toured all of the church history sites and were ready for a little more of what the local area had to offer.  Grandpa Reese and Grandma Kathy had found a fun lake on one of their sight-seeing drives, so we headed there.

Cayuga Lake

Do you remember toys like this from when you were a kid?  Why are they not on any of the new playgrounds in Idaho?  Has New York missed some safety concern regarding these?  They are so fun; my kids love them, but we hardly ever see them!  Who doesn't want to rattle the brain back and forth on an animal shaped seat?!

Little Cayuga Lake dance by Miss Natalia.

Cayuga is one of the finger lakes.  I assumed they were called that because of their shape--they are long and skinny and close together.  That is, actually, pretty much why they are called finger lakes, but there is also a story about them being made by the hands of God as He created the earth.  An Indian legend or something.   I liked that image.  God had a hand in so much that happened here (okay, of course He has a hand in all that happens everywhere, but I am referring to all the church history stuff).

I am pretty sure NOTHING trumps sand and water when it comes to keeping my kids entertained for hours upon end (it could totally extend to days upon end).

Still not sure why kids keep putting handful after handful of sand in their mouths when they gag on it and try to spit it out.  Is that not enough of a natural deterrent?  Apparently not.  Mari enjoyed putting the sand in her mouth, but didn't like it in there.  Silly girl!

Madeline the Mermaid.

Camilla the sand cupcake chef.

Eliza made a darling sand turtle with a little encouragement and direction from Grandpa Reese.

I wonder if Grandpa Reese ever gave the camera a big cheezer grin as a kid.  If he did, he has totally grown out of it by now!  He was working on a nice sand castle which Anna came and knocked down.  Sorry Grandpa.

Grandpa helped Natalia make a sand lizard.  Cool toes, spikes, and everything.

After the lake, Grandpa Reese and Kevin drove around to see some historical shops.  The girls, Grandma, and I went souvenir shopping.  We didn't find very many shops open on Saturday.  Don't know why.  We looked for and ice cream shop, but couldn't find one of those open, either.  We ended up at WalMart where we bought legos for souvenirs and a box of drumstick cones for a treat!

They were delicious despite not coming from an ice cream shop!

Mari enjoyed hers!

We ended the day with a visit from the tooth fairy.  Eliza has been letting that thing dangle for weeks!  Finally that last bit of skin gave out and out popped the tooth!  We headed to bed while visions of tooth fairies danced in our heads.
