We went all out with our fair entries this year--at least we did several items. Camilla made a cake ("Penguin Valley")--it was cute, you can sort of see it there. It does look like a valley of penguins. She also drew a picture of "Idaho Landscape" which was inspired by the view from Mt. Harrison on our recent trip to Lake Cleveland. Her cute birdie there is named "Rainbow" and was entered in the Vegetable Animal category. She did a flower arrangement as well, but it was done after this picture, I guess! Her cake won a second prize ribbon, $2 and a 5 pound bag of sugar. She also won $3 for the other entries (each got a white ribbon). Not bad, eh? Which one of your children wouldn't be thrilled with 5 pounds of sugar?
Eliza entered mango jam (ever tried that) and this beauty of a flower arrangement. Since she is only 4, she can't technically enter things in the fair, so the jam was under Camilla's name. After Madeline and Camilla saw the flower, they both declared that thing was not going to be entered under their names! We had a neighbor girl over who kindly said she could put it in her name. Surprise, surprise, when we went to check it's status at the fair the next day, it had won the blue ribbon and $3! She also made some delicious pumpkin chocolate chip muffins with caramel frosting which won a blue ribbon AND a blue rosette. She walked away with $7.
Madeline has made a cake (decorated) the past two years and wanted to do it yet again. (She has 15 lbs of sugar to her name down in our storage room). The theme of her cake this year was "Rapunzel Leaves her Tower." Zoom in for details. Very clever. She made raspberry jam which earned a blue ribbon and a rosette, a baby bird veggie animal, a dress (Barbie size) and a flower arrangement which is also not pictured. She tied Eliza for $7 winnings!
Anna loved the animals, particularly the pigs. Most of my babies have been afraid of them, but she was delighted to have them snorting and grunting in her face!
Kevin entered us in the Burley Stake booth and took home a blue ribbon for each of us. They ran out of money so they couldn't pay him, but I'm sure we would have made him a rich man.
I entered whole wheat dinner rolls and earned a second place ribbon and $8. Yep, it's all in a day's work!
Natalia entered Saskatoon berries from our garden. They earned her $1. She was thrilled to see them there and thrilled to buy a candy baby bottle with her earnings.
