When Kevin and I got married, we were given my parents old "wood panel" sided mini van. They were trying to sell it, but couldn't so we were blessed to receive it. We didn't have any kids at the time, but used it well anyway. We drove it for five years and, although the drivers side window was held up with duct tape and we didn't trust it on the freeway, it served us well!
When we were expecting Eliza, we had saved up enough money for a new car and bought our new mini van. With power door, stow-and-go seating, power windows that went down AND up again, a tape/CD player, etc., we were really living!
It seemed we very quickly went from having a few extra seats "stowed" away to having the whole thing full! Now with number six on the way, we were filled to overflowing and in need of yet a larger vehicle. After contemplating an eight passenger mini van (and realizing how crowded we'd be in it, especially on trips) we decided on a suburban.
I've never really been one to want a large vehicle and was rather nervous the first time I test drove a gigantic suburban. It was surprisingly easy to drive, so that gave me a bit of confidence. We recently purchased this beautiful, but beastly vehicle. After some time, I can now drive down the road without being half afraid I'm going to hit all the cars parked along the side, but I still choose parking spots with a little extra room on each side! I'll never even attempt a narrow parking spot with this big hippster!
This cute little puppy actually belongs to our neighbors down the lane. She followed me home on my walk and my girls had a great time playing with her! They were definitely more interested in playing with her than taking a picture with the suburban, but since she was willing to join the picture they were, too!
I was really worried this vehicle would not fit in our garage, but, while we do have to park on our bottom garage step, it does fit and we can shut the garage door! Just a matter of time before one car gets dinged by the others' door, though. Sliding van doors didn't hold such a risk.
Oh, and if anyone wants to go for a ride, we did insist upon a 9 rather than 8 passenger suburban, so we'd be happy to bring you along!

We love the room in ours. I actually feel safer in our Yukon than the smaller car. I know I will be seen or at least I would win in a fender bender. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your beautiful "burb", I've told Greg that when our poor junkie, falling apart minivan finally dies it's last painful death, I WANT THAT SUBURBAN. You of course know that I have vast experience driving massive cars. I think of my blue van from high school days with fondness..and hope that you love driving your new beast. It's pretty!
ReplyDeleteWow! Schnazzy, Lindy!! I can't wait for a joyride in that thing! (And I'm chuckling at the memory of Karen driving her huge van! Thank you, Karen)!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture at the top with the girls all in stair-step fashion, oldest to youngest. Melts my heart.
