When I was expecting Madeline (and bored with not much to do) I started the tradition of making a quilt for each of my babies. I later became much busier with other children and regretted the tradition! However, since the previous 5 children have had their own homemade quilt, I can hardly stop now!
I searched the internet for some cute, easy patterns and found one called "ric-rac ruffles" that was super cute.

I headed off to the fabric store (with only Anna in tow, thanks to the Wizard of Oz which was babysitting the other 4!) looking for--something. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, probably something pink and girly and cute. I saw this cute striped fabric and fell in love with it! I also really loved the brown one with colorful leaves. Unfortunately, they happened to be some of the priciest fabric in the store, but at least it's cute! Hence the red/brown color scheme for my new baby girl.
Here is one square finished. My plan was to put a row of ric-rac down the middle of the ruffle, but now I'm not so sure. I might like it better without the ric-rac. We'll see.
Anyway, I think it's cute, feminine, but definitely different than anything else we have in the house!
By the way, I have to acknowledge and thank Miss Madeline for entertaining the children while I worked on this today. School was canceled due to furnace problems, so she has had them all busy playing "school" while I sew!
